Army jawan, civilian killed after Pakistan violates ceasefire in J&K’s Poonch sector

Two including a soldier died in unprovoked mortar shelling by Pakistani forces along the Line of Control (LoC) in Krishna Ghati and Karmara areas of Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district today.

One Army personnel and a civilian porter were killed in unprovoked ceasefire violation by Pakistan this morning in KG sector, confirmed an army spokesman in a statement.

The spokesperson said Pakistani troops started unprovoked and indiscriminate firing of small arms and automatics at about 10.35 am along the LoC in Krishna Ghati sector. The Indian forces is giving a befitting response, the spokesperson added.

In the mean time, sources said that Pakistani forces also resorted to mortar shelling in Poonch sector’s Karmara area. The shelling was conducted at irregular intervals till afternoon, they further said.

Notably, Karmara is neighboring to Chakkan Da Bagh, a border area on Poonch-Rawalakot road, where Pakistani rangers had earlier this week handed over to Indian army a 37 years old woman, identified as, Azmat Jan of Digwar, who had crossed over to Pakistan administered Kashmir in 2013 after a fight with her husband at home.

There have been several ceasefire violations by Pakistani troop this year, especially in Rajouri and Poonch district’s villages.
