Mumbai: 17-year-old boy collapses in classroom, dies

A teen collapsed inside the classroom of an international school in Mira Road yesterday. He was immediately taken to Bhakti Vedanta hospital in Mira road, but died while undergoing treatment.

The body has been sent to JJ hospital for an autopsy, and the Kashimira cops are probing further.

Police said, Shashank Agarwal, a class 12 student of Singapore International School (SIS) situated in Mira Road’s Kashimira area, suddenly fell down and became unconscious and was taken to a hospital immediately.

“The cause of the death is still unknown. We have sent the body for autopsy to JJ hospital and are waiting for the reports,” said a Kashimira police station Inspector.

Mahesh Patil, SP, Thane (rural) said, “We have lodged a case of accidental death in this connection and are investigating further. We will record the statements of the family to determine if the teen had any medical history.”

“The SIS community is deeply saddened and shaken by the sudden demise this morning of Master Shashank Agarwal from Grade 12. He was an intelligent, diligent, helpful and highly motivated student who secured Honors and we felicitated him in an award ceremony on Sunday,” said Kaisar Dopaishi, on behalf of the school.

He further said, “In loving memory of Shashank, we are arranging a solemn gathering of the SIS community in school. The school will be closed on Wednesday. The Diwali Mela stands cancelled while the prefects Investiture ceremony is postponed till further notice. Please keep Shashank and his family and friends in your prayers, as it is hard to bear this unexpected loss. We will deeply miss him and we mourn his absence.”
