Six including five wrestlers killed in major road mishap in Maharashtra

Five wrestlers, who were returning from a local competition, were killed when a tractor hit their SUV at Sangli district in Maharashtra on Saturday morning, police said.

Seven people were injured in the major road mishap, police said.

The accident took place on the Kadegaon-Sangli road, when the wrestlers coming back from Aundh village after contesting in the Wrestling completion there. They were on their way to Kundal in Sangli, a senior cop said.

A speeding tractor, which was coming from the opposite direction, hit their vehicle, leaving six people dead, he said.

The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital where they are undergoing treatment now, the cop said.

ChinChni-Vangi police station has filed a case against the tractor driver under relevant sections of the IPC and Motor Vehicles Act.

Police said attempts were underway to arrest the tractor driver who escaped from the spot after the accident.
